Hey!
Things have been busy around here! Hankling is doing great, turning into quite the little guy with sucha funny personality! I can't believe he will be 4 months on Friday! Only 8 more months to plan his first bday bash. ;) He's had quite a few Dr appts for numerous things, he has acid reflux, so he's on Zantac now.
He went to see a Cardiologist at children's hospital last week for a heart murmur his pediatrician detected. The Cardiologist did an ekg and ruled it an innocent heart murmur and isn't concerned at all.
Next week we are going back to children's to see a neurosurgeon for his head. His head is very flat in the back, and his Dr was very concerned and thinks his soft spots may have closed up too early, so off to the Dr we go! We are thinking a helmet may be in his future, which stinks but ya gotta do what ya gotta do! In the mean time, he's only allowed to be on his back while sleeping or in his car seat! This makes it kind of difficult since he can't sit up on his own and he only likes his bumbo and jumper for so long, so I basically hold him upright all day. I packed his swing away too since that would be considered being on his back.
I guess we can blame it on the fact that he's such a great sleeper (at night, during the day is a whole other story!), he goes to bed at 830, wakes around 5/6 for a bottle then goes back down until about 9. No complaints here! But I guess I should knock on wood. But anyway, he sleeps completely straight, like a board, so his poor head is totally flat in the back! We could use his body as a table to eat off of! Lol So just keep him in your prayers as we figure out what's going on with it.
He's completely perfect and I look at him everyday and can't believe God choose me to be his mom. I thank God for him every single night. He is my absolute love and joy. I feel so fortunate that I get to stay home with him everyday, I couldn't imagine leaving him! (You people with toddlers are thinking, "oh you just wait, you'll be so excited to get away from him in a couple years!") Lol but I love staying home with him!
Now if we could only get this baby to nap! Anyone have any advice?! I wouldn't complain about his napping, because I'm so happy with his nighttime sleep, but he gets so miserable during the day because he's so tired. I've tried everything! We do naps in the same place as bed time, in his crib, swaddled, with his sound machine, but he always gets up after like 30-40 minutes. I go in there and lure him back to sleep but that only works part of the time. Zach thought maybe it was a light issue so he put cardboard up in his Window (we're so classy!) But I'm scared he'll get used to only sleeping when it's completely dark, and I don't want that. He naps fora long time if I hold him but that's really not realistic. Any mommy friends have any input?
I think that's all for now! Time for bed!

Busy, busy, busy!
Hello friends!
To say I've been busy would be the understatment of the century! Holy moly. I feel like all I do is change diapers, feed Hank, change diapers, feed Hank...oh that's right, because that IS all I do! haha :) My sister in law, Marissa said it best when she said my life is like the movie Ground Hogs Day, lol. My days are on repeat.
Hank is growing like a weed! It's so fun watching him grow and get bigger and bigger! It's hard to belive I can love something so little SO freaking much! He is my world and I don't know what I would do without him. Parenting is definitely the hardest job I've ever had (and I've had quite a few ;)), but it's so rewarding, like when he looks at me and gives me the BIGGEST smile ever...even if it was because he just pooped all over his onsie, pants and myself. haha! It's true when they say a baby changes everything, because it totally does. I've learned how to eat extremely fast so I can get him what he needs, I've learned how to hold him and balance my dinner plate on him and eat with one hand, I've accepted the fact that I have to eat a cold dinner because his needs come before mine, and I've gained patience, something I've never had. Hank has definitely changed my life, but I wouldn't have it any other way! He is my heart.
I'm hoping soon he can get on some sort of a routine or schedule so I can plan my days out better. I'm such an organized, control freak that I hate not having a schedule, haha. My mother in law told me this weekend that parenting is surely going to change that, lol. He is doing really well with sleeping in his crib, and I'm loving that I get to sleep in my bed again and not the couch. He sleeps about 5 hour stretches in the night, waking up twice for a feeding, but going right back to sleep. Me on the other hand, I have to stay awake after he goes back to sleep because I have a strict pumping schedule since he is no longer nursing. After talking to numerous lactation consultants, we've come to the conclusion that he's a slow nurser and he wasn't getting the satisfied feeling from nursing cause he was so slow at it, so now I'm exclusively pumping which is SUCH a chore! Trying to keep a 7 week old happy and entertained while I pump 8 times a day is quite a challenge, but I'm trying to stay positive and stick with it because I know how important it is for him to get breast milk.
Zach is currently in ALS- so he is now gone from 7am- 6pm, then he comes home and eats dinner and goes right upstairs to do homework until it's time for bed. :( It stinks but that's only until the end of June, Hank and I can't wait to spend some quality time with him soon! We miss him!
Well, that's all for now!

My labor and delivery story
Well a lot has changed since the last time I posted...my little man has finally entered the world!
On Sunday, April 7th I started getting contractions around 9:30pm, Zach was sleeping so I just laid on the couch and tried to relax as best I could, they lasted until about 1:00am. I took a shower, and they stopped so I went to bed. The next morning when I woke up, I was fairly crampy and was starting to get contractions again. I thought it might be the real deal so I started doing things around the house like dusting, laundry, dishes and last minute things in Hank's room, I couldn't imagine going to the hospital and thinking about dirty dishes in the sink! Zach was at work but I was texting him and letting him know I was contracting. By the time he got home around 3, my contractions were about 6-7 minutes apart and lasting about a minute. He went to the garage to finish up the final touches on the dresser in case our little guy was coming soon. We then went for a walk around the block, after we got home, we decided maybe we should go to the hospital just to be sure.
We got to the hospital around 6:00pm and my contractions were getting stronger and closer together. They checked me and said I was about 2-3 cm dilated, and said his head was super low down and that they would watch me for about an hour then let us go home. After about an hour they came in and checked me and said I was about 3-4 cm, and said they'd keep watching me. They came in a little while later and said I was 4-5 cm and that I would be spending the night and having him the next day. :) I called my parents and they hit the road for their 7 hour drive. I was having quite a bit of pain at this point so they gave me staydal (sp?), I felt like I was completely wasted, it was awesome, lol. I fell asleep for a while and got another dose a little while later. I went to sleep again then they came in and told me if I wanted the epidural I should get it then because the anesthesiologist was going into a c-section and wouldn't be available. So I got the epidural, it didn't hurt at all, but it was so weird when the electric shock went through my leg. I went to sleep for a little while longer, then they came in and broke my water at about 4:30am. I went back to bed, and woke up at 6:00am and couldn't sleep, I just wanted to get the show on the road and meet my boy! They came in about 7:30 and said I was fully dilated and I would be having him shortly. So exciting!
They were very impressed with how fast I progressed and said my body was made for delivering babies, yeah right! I started pushing between 7:30 and 8:00 I think, I pushed for 3 1/2 hours to no avail. I wasn't moving him at all. By this time I was completely exhausted, and my back hurt so bad, I was bawling and they were all trying to calm me down, it was just too overwhelming at that point. They said they would try to vacuum him out but then if that didn't work I would have to have a c-section. I was pretty bummed that I wasn't getting the delivery I wanted but I just wanted to meet him and I had absolutely no energy left. The vacuum didn't work and they got me all prepped and ready for surgery, I was so scared as I have never had surgery before except my wisdom teeth. They wheeled me into the O.R. and it was just crazy madness. There were so many doctors, and nurses and so many people just poking and proding me. Well at 12:08 in the afternoon, my little man came into the world! They whisked him over to weigh him and stuff and I bawled some more because they had promised they would show him to me right away and they didn't, so Zach went over to watch while they measured him and he took pictures. Then they whisked him away to the nursery and I was so upset, nothing was going as I had planned.
The rest is pretty much a blur but this is what happened. Apparently during my delivery, my cervix ruptured and seperated from my vagina and my uterus seperated from my vagina as well, so they were three seperate parts. So after my c-section I spent about 3 1/2- 4 hours in the O.R. pretty much getting "reconstructive" surgery on my lady parts. I didn't get to meet Hank until like 5 hours after I had him and I was so drugged up that I don't even remember it. It was pretty crazy and emotional for everyone. I lost about 4-5 units of blood and needed a blood transfusion. I also apparently have a weird shaped pelvic bone so he couldn't fit, so when they kept saying "his head it RIGHT there" I'm not sure what they were feeling, as he never made his way down the birth canal...
It was saddening not getting the delivery I wanted, but I got my amazing son, so he makes it all worth it. All the doctors that operated on me said they have never seen anything like this and said they reviewed my case like 300 times and just think that between pushing for over 3 hours and trying the vacuum that my parts just couldn't handle it. Even though I didn't want an epidural thank GOD I got one, as I probably would have passed out from the pain of my cervix rupturing.
They aren't 100% sure if I will ever be able to get pregnant again, or carry a baby, which makes me sad but if God only intended for us to have one baby, at least we have this amazing, perfect baby boy. :) They said we FOR SURE can't try and get pregnant for AT LEAST one year, and that is perfectly fine with me! ;) I want to enjoy Hank before we ever try and get pregnant again. And they said if I get pregnant again then I for sure have to have a c-section.
I'm healing up pretty well I'd say for having pretty major surgery. I'm not allowed to drive for at least 2 weeks and I'm not allowed to lift anything heavier than Hank. Thank goodness my parents are here and helping me, I don't know what we'd do without them!
So thank you to everyone who sent well wishes and prayers, we really appreciated it!

9 Weeks To Go!
31 weeks down, 9 to go....crazy! It's flying by! I can't believe that in nine weeks or less (or a little more) we will have a tiny, handsome, crying baby in our house. Sometimes I just sit and think about how it's going to be once he gets here, and I am SO excited. I know I will be, sleep deprived, stressed, frustrated, and Zach and I will be wondering "what the heck were we thinking?!" but I also know that it will be so rewarding and amazing, and I can't wait to start this journey. It's amazing how much you can love someone that isn't even here yet, I already have so much love for him and would do absolutely anything for him.
Zach gets back this week and then it's time to get down to business! He is making all the furniture for the nursery, so he's gonna be quite the busy bee in the coming weeks. :) It's going to cost us more than just buying nursery furniture from Walmart or Target but it will be way more sentimental and it will be so amazing to tell our kids that their dad made that. :) (Hopefully it turns out...;))
I'm going home next week for my baby shower on March 2nd, I'm so excited to see everyone! Zach can't take anymore leave right now, so I'm coming alone, well except for Kibbles. :) I'm not sure how long I'm staying in town, I want to stay for a few days just because I don't know when we'll be coming to Nebraska again but I know I'll also be itching to get home and get some things done, so we will see.
I can't wait for Zach to get home, and I know the dogs are going to FLIP OUT. Right when he gets back he'll be on mid shift (10p- 7a) so hopefully it'll be a smooth transition since he's been on a normal schedule for a couple months. At least Sam will be happy that she still gets a whole half of the bed. :)
Until next time,
Amber

Christmas!
It's almost Christmas! I'm so excited, I absolutely LOVE this time of year. :) It's so crazy to think how this time next year we will have an adorable, handsome, awesome little boy running around taking all the ornaments off the tree and feeding the pups Christmas cookies. I can't wait!
We were planning on going to Nebraska on Wednesday, however there is supposed to be bad weather, so now we're leaving on Tuesday. I can't wait to see everyone and just spend some good quality time with them. We will be there for almost a week and it will be great!
Things are going amazing lately, and I thank God everyday for all the awesome blessings in my life. Zach and I FINALLY felt little man move for the first time a couple weeks ago. It was the coolest thing ever. He was at work when I felt it for the first time, he was going CRAZY in my belly. I wanted Zach to feel it so bad, so I stayed in the exact same position for 45 minutes waiting for Zach to get home from work. So as soon as he walked in the door, I started screaming for him and he came running up the stairs thinking something bad had happened (whoops lol). But by that time little man had already stopped. Bummer. The next day, I was feeling it again, so I had Zach feel it and BAM, he got kicked in the hand. Zach's face lit up, it was the cutest thing ever. And ever since then I've been feeling him everyday, he loves to party at night time..typical newborn. ;)
This past Tuesday I had a bad stomach virus and ended up in the hospital. I called my OB nurse to find out what I could take to feel better and she asked if I had been having stomach cramps and I said yes, and she was worried that from my vomiting I had become dehydrated and that my stomach cramps were actually contractions. I was pretty sure I wasn't contracting, as the pain wasn't unbearable but she insisted we head to Labor & Delivery just to be sure. So off we went, and we were there for about 4 hours while I was hooked up to a contraction machine and heart rate monitor, and I wasn't contracting, thank God! And by the next day I was feeling 100x better.
As the holidays pass, remember to hold your loved ones tight and tell them how much they mean to you. 27 families won't be able to do that ever again in Newtown. That tragedy breaks my heart every time I think about it, I just can't even fathom the pain they must be going through. I pray for them daily and hope at some point they start to heal.
Merry Christmas & Happy New Year! Safe travels if you're traveling!

Baby Boy :)
We found out one week ago that we are having a bouncing, baby boy! We couldn't be more thrilled! Zach and I have called him a boy since day one, pretty much everyone said it was a girl, mainly because of his high heart rate...but I proved all the wive's tales wrong, lol. A few wives tales were, high heart rate= girl, breaking out with acne= girl (cause she's stealing your beauty;)), and I even peed in baking soda which the results proved girl. But with all that Zach and I still called him a boy and by his name since the very beginning. I was starting to think how bad I would feel if I had to tell our daughter that we called her a he for the first 20 weeks, lol.
We opted for an elective scan in town, where we pay out of pocket so we could find out on our anniversary. Best $50 ever spent! lol We got to the clinic, where my bladder was about to BURST and thankfully they said they didn't need a full bladder for a gender scan (praise Jesus!) lol, I was able to enjoy the ultra sound SO much more. When she first put the wand (?) on my belly, she said "it" was all curled up, and I thought, "oh no! move! please, so we can find out!" So she had me roll to my side to make "it" move. Zach and I were both awaiting anxiously, until she typed on the screen "I'm a boy!". We were both SPEECHLESS! And the tech says "Oh crap! Did you not want to know?! I didn't even look at your sheet, but you both went silent!" We were like, yeah we wanted to know, we're just speechless! lol It was amazing, I seriously couldn't even speak. She said she could tell right away that he was a boy even when he was curled up but she wanted to give us a better picture of his manly parts. ;)
We were only supposed to get to see him in 2D but she was awesome and showed us 3D too. It was amazing seeing his little ears, and toes, and nose and fingers, eeek it makes me so excited. He kept putting his hands over his face like, "no autographs, or flash photography, please" lol. We were also only supposed to get two ultra sound pictures printed but she printed us like 30! After the ultra sound, we went to the car and called our parents, Zach's grandma, and our siblings, then I texted a few close friends. :) We went to Zach's squadron and showed everyone there. Then we went to Babies R Us and picked up a couple outfits and finally got me a pregnancy pillow so I can hopefully make myself sleep on my left side...which is not going too great.
I've pretty much been on cloud nine since finding out. When I sit and think about raising a son, it overwhelms me with emotion. We get to teach him how to be a gentleman, and how to treat women, but we also get to see him just be a boy, and hopefully take up his father's hobbies like working on cars and hunting (even though I don't believe in it, lol). Any mood I'm in just thinking about him makes me so happy and giddy.
Yesterday we had his anatomy scan. It was pure torture, I had drank a crap load of water and when you have a bladder the size of a walnut like me, it seems like even more water. I couldn't even walk I had to pee so bad, and then he was bouncing the wand all over my belly, I honestly thought I was going to pee on the table! Everything looked great and he weighs 13oz, which the tech said is accurate within 2oz, so he could be 11oz or 15oz (in case you struggle with math ;-)). I haven't felt him move yet but I have a anterior placenta, meaning my planceta runs down the middle of my belly (I guess), so that could be why. Can't wait to feel him move!
Sorry if everyone is sick of my posts and statuses about him, and our new found excitement, but no one is forcing you to read. :) I want to document all of this excitement, and since I live so far away from everyone blogging and facebooking is the easiest way.
This weekend Zach and I are going to Green Bay to watch the Packers! I'm excited, but super sad to be leaving my fur babies. :(
Anyway, that's enough for now. Thanks for reading!
P.S. He has a name, we have just only shared it with close friends and family for now. :)
Debt Free :)
Well things are going absolutely fantastic! Our latest and greatest goal has been met...we are DEBT FREE. Late last year we took Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace University class and it was literally awe-inspiring. On January 16th of this year we decided to get serious about paying off Zach's student loans and our two car loans. So in nine months and twenty three days we paid off $11,956.75, and it feels seriously amazing! We had decided early in marriage that we would absolutely not bring a child into this world with debt, and we met our goal! I am so proud of us. :) It feels so nice to own a car that is still worth $10,000! So enough bragging about that. ;-)
Onto the BABY, which we will be able to call a HE or SHE on Tuesday! We are so excited, it is also our two year wedding anniversary, I can't believe we've been married that long! It has FLOWN by! We have our ultra sound at 10a on Tuesday, then we're going to call our parents and siblings and text our closest friends, than go buy the baby's first outfit. Yay!
I've been feeling great, I am now 19 weeks, almost halfway there! We have our anatomy scan for the baby in one week as well, so we'll get to see little gummy two times in the next week. :) I can't wait to get more pictures, hopefully it cooperates and we will easily be able to see if it's a boy or a girl.
Zach and I decorated for Christmas yesterday, we don't have a tree yet, but we're getting a real one this year and I'm so excited. The first year we lived here we lived in the apartments so we could only have a fake one, lame and last year we were moving into this house on the 23rd, so we didn't get a tree. So FINALLY, we were able to decorate for Christmas. We get to go home on the 26th and I'm stoked. We are also going to Lambeau to a Packers game in a couple weeks with Zach's parents. :) Then the weekend after that we are going to Decorah to go to my family's Christmas with the crazy Smocks. I love this time of year!
Hope everyone is doing as great as we are!
Until next time,
A
